Master Juan Rangel

7th Degree Black Belt in Hap Ki Do

Master Juan Carlos Rangel Sr. born 11-04-67. Master Rangel has studied the Martial Arts since 1974 (age 6), and has been teaching since 1986. Master
Rangel parents enroll him in the martial arts Kung Fu (praying mantis) and Wing Chun to help him with confidence and to help him to defend against bullies and
rough neighborhood area’s in Texas. Then the family moves to Battle Creek, Michigan and immediately enrolls Master Rangel in the International Academy of
the Martial Arts (TaeKwonDo). In 1982 Master Rangel enrolls in Korean Martial Arts Hee Kwan Lee’s Hap Ki Do School.

In 1987, Master Rangel and Senior Grand Master Hee Kwan Lee became U.S. citizen in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Master Rangel and Grand Master Hee Kwan Lee went
through the ceremony together to become. U.S. Citizens.

Master Rangel was a Michigan State TaeKwonDo Champion five times and competed at the National level. He is also a Regional Sport Jujitsu Champion,
Open Karate Forms, and Weapons Champion. Master Rangel has produced many junior Olympian champions.

Master Rangel traveled the U.S to learn from top Master’s, and various styles to enhance his knowledge in the Martial Arts. Master Rangel has had the honor and
privilege to train with Grand Master Wally Jay, Remy Press, Carloson Gracie, In Sun Seo, Ji Han Jae, Sun Hwan Chung, Young Sook Kim etc.

Master Rangel is very happy knowing that his wife Elena and his kids Nicole, Carlos, Pearla and Omar actively train in Hap Ki Do.

Master Rangel currently teaches class at Korean Martial Arts in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Master Rob Gillson

6th Degree Black Belt in Hapkido

 Rob Gillson was born on March 5, 1970 in Oscoda, MI.

His interest in martial arts began at an early age, initially taking him to see any newly released
martial arts movie in the area. While in his early 20's, Rob's interest grew to the point where he
began looking for martial arts schools in the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo areas. Rob visited
many martial arts studios looking for one that suited him.

In the fall of 1994, after seeing an advertisement for the then new location on Dickman Road,
Rob visited Grand Master Lee's school. Through a brief but enlightening conversation with Grand
Master Lee and Master Schreiner, Rob learned of the versatility of the art of Hap Ki Do.

Rob enrolled the next week and has never looked back. Rob now resides in Battle Creek with his
wife and two children.

His years of training have enabled him to attain the rank of Sixth Degree Black Belt Master
Instructor.

Master Cindy Wagner
   5th Degree Black Belt in Hapkido

Cindy Wagner was born in Wisconsin, 1958. She moved to Michigan in 1979 for graduate school, and has lived in Michigan since then.

Cindy became involved in the martial arts later in life, not having had that opportunity in her youth. She studied Tai Chi for a couple years, and fenced competitively for 10 years

(foil, sabre) in regional and national tournaments.

Cindy finally found her “home” in Hap Ki Do with Grand Master Lee, in 2007, and has been training with him since that

time. She holds the rank of 5th Dan Master Instructor.

Cindy was a member of the KMA Demo Team that traveled to Korea in 2009 for the Korean Open; that team won Gold.

She was also a member of the USA/IHF Demo Team that won Gold at the 2010 World Championship in Battle Creek.

Master Tom Burbank

5th Degree Black Belt in Hapkido

Tom started Hap Ki Do in June of 2005 with his wife of 38 years Kelly.

He started Hap Ki Do because he had always wanted to do martial arts when he was a kid but his family life wouldn't allow it. Tom and Kelly had enough of sitting around he has
been helping at KMA ever since.

Tom is the main instructor with the little eagles class and the kids classes, but is willing to help any age group that he can. He has attained the rank of 5th Dan Master Instructor.

Tom also enjoys refereeing tournaments when I can. I have gotten to do things and meet people that would have not been possible before joining Hap Ki Do.

Tom also enjoys spending time with my daughter Marie and my grandchildren Tommi, Phillip, and Dylan.

Assistant Master Tony Spahr

3^rd Degree Black Belt in Hap Ki Do

Tony Spahr was born in 1960, in Battle Creek MI. He started his training in 1974 in the art of Uechi-Ryu Karate.  Attaining the rank of Ikkyu (Senior Brown) before the school closed.

In the early 80’s, Tony Met Senior Grand Master Hee Kwan Lee and started training in the art of Hap Ki Do. He has trained with Grand Master Lee on and off over for the last 30 years.

Over the years Mr. Spahr has also been fortunate enough to study several other martial arts including Judo, Tai Chi, Moo Yea, and Qigong.

Tony lives in Battle Creek, Michigan with his beautiful wife Sheri, and his two children Anthony, and Daniel.
